Mortgages to landlords dropped 5 percent in April from the previous month, the sharpest decline since October, and their proportion of home loans fell to 45.7 percent of the total, the first decline in five months, according to government statistics. The nation’s regulators have urged lenders to limit their appetite for investor home loans because it was leading to an unbalanced market.
